Datinate ("the App") is developed by Moritz Maass ("we", "us"), based in Germany. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the App.
We designed the App to hold as little of your data as possible. We do not operate our own servers for storing your content. Content you create is stored locally and, if you enable iCloud, in your private iCloud database. Purchase information is processed by Apple and by RevenueCat, as described below.
Everything you create in Datinate — e.g., your Templates, Use Case data, Use Case entries — is stored:
Synchronisation uses Apple's iCloud service (CloudKit). Your content is stored in the App's container within the CloudKit private database, which belongs to your Apple Account and is encrypted by Apple with account-based keys. Apple designed this database so that developers cannot browse its contents: we do not operate any backend tools to access or retrieve your content, and we do not receive a copy of it on any system we operate.
The one exception is you: if you choose to include content in a support email, screenshot or other message to us, we will see what you send (see section 4).
Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's privacy policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
You can disable iCloud synchronisation for the App in iOS Settings. Disabling sync stops new data from being uploaded, but does not by itself delete data already stored in iCloud — see section 8 for how to delete it.
If you buy a subscription or in-app purchase, the payment is handled entirely by Apple. We never receive your name, address, card number or any payment details.
To validate purchases and unlock the features you have paid for, we use RevenueCat, Inc., a subscription and in-app purchases management service. Depending on the SDK version and features in use, RevenueCat may process:
We do not provide RevenueCat with your name or email address. We have not enabled any of RevenueCat's optional attribution, advertising or third-party data integrations.
This information is used to validate purchases, prevent fraudulent or invalid transactions, deliver the features you have paid for and — where supported by Apple and our configuration — restore your entitlements on your devices. RevenueCat also processes information as needed to operate and secure its own service, under its terms and privacy policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy
We do not use this information for targeted advertising, we do not instruct RevenueCat to do so, and we do not sell personal information.
The App does not:
Apple may provide us with aggregated App Store statistics and, where you have opted in to sharing them with developers, crash and diagnostic reports. These come through Apple's developer services, are governed by Apple's policies, and are not used for advertising.
If you email us for support, we receive the information you choose to send — your email address, your message and any attachments or screenshots. We use it only to respond to you, and retain it only as long as reasonably needed for support, security and legal purposes.
For the purchase-management information described in section 2, we act as the data controller and RevenueCat acts as our processor under its data processing agreement. RevenueCat and Apple may additionally process certain information for their own legal, security and service-administration purposes under their respective terms and privacy policies. Apple is an independent controller for App Store transactions and for iCloud.
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, our legal bases are:
Although the RevenueCat App User ID is pseudonymous, we treat it as personal data where the law requires.
Apple, RevenueCat and their service providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live, including the United States. Where required, these transfers rely on applicable transfer mechanisms under our agreements with those providers, such as adequacy decisions or EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
Content you create is retained by you: it stays on your device and in your iCloud account until you delete it.
RevenueCat retains purchase-management records on our behalf for as long as needed to provide subscription and in-app purchase entitlement functionality, and until deleted, subject to legal, security, fraud-prevention and backup requirements. Apple retains its own transaction records under its policies.
Content: deleting content inside the App is intended to synchronise that deletion through iCloud. You can also delete all of the App's iCloud data via Settings → [your name] → iCloud. Apple may retain deleted information temporarily in backups, as described in its policies. Note that deleting the App from your device does not delete data already stored in iCloud.
Purchase records: to request deletion of the RevenueCat records associated with you, email us at appledevelopment@maass-net.de and include the customer identifier shown on the Settings screen in the app. This identifier is random and not linked to your name, email address or Apple ID, so without it we are generally unable to determine which records relate to you and cannot fulfil the request (as recognised by Art. 11 GDPR). We will process requests that include the identifier within 30 days. Please note:
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our processing of your personal data, to receive a copy of it in a portable format, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
If the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) applies to us and to your information, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request its deletion and correction, and to opt out of "sale" or "sharing". We disclose limited information to service providers such as RevenueCat, but we do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising as those terms are defined by California law.
Because we hold almost no data about you, in practice most requests can be answered by pointing out that your content is in your own iCloud account. To exercise any right, email appledevelopment@maass-net.de.
We may disclose limited information: to service providers acting on our behalf (such as RevenueCat); where required by law or legal process; where necessary to protect our rights, users' safety or the security of the App; or in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case this policy would continue to apply or you would be notified of changes. None of this involves selling your data.
The App is not directed to children under 13. If the law where you live sets a higher minimum age for using the App or purchasing subscriptions or in-app entitlement without parental consent, that higher age applies. If we learn that we have processed a child's personal information contrary to applicable law, we will take appropriate steps to delete it. To notify us, email appledevelopment@maass-net.de.
Content is protected by Apple's device and iCloud security, including encryption in transit and at rest. Information processed by RevenueCat is transmitted over encrypted connections and protected under its security practices. No system is perfectly secure, but because we operate no servers and hold no copy of your content, the exposure involving systems we control is very limited.
If we change how the App handles data, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date. Material changes will also be noted in the App's release notes.
